Hawksbill

جزيرة صير بو نعير, الشارقة, الإمارات

Female
Background:
Rangers from the Emirates Marine Enviornment Group came across this turtle on Beach 7 at the north side of Sir Bu Nair island on the 1st of May, and we outfitted her with a satellite transmitter on the morning of the 2nd before setting her free - down south by the EMEG site office. Interestingly she headed right back to where she was first seen, probably so she can lay eggs again. This turtle measured 75.5 cm in curved carapace length, and carries a shiny monel tag numbered 1177, so that we can recognise her when she comes back to nest - as if the transmitter itself wouldn't give that away! With the generous sponsorship of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, her movements will tell us all about migration patterns and the location of feeding areas, so that management authorities are in a better position to implement targetted conservation measures.
