Background:
Diya emerged at 8:00pm on the 8th to nest, but did not lay eggs and was headed to the sea when she was encountered by rangers from Qatar University's Environmental Studies Centre. Now sponsored by Momentum Logistics, Diya was tagged with two monel tags (QU0426 and QU0427) and measured a small 69 cm in curved carapace length. We put a satellite transmitter on her and released her just at midnight on a cool evening in Qatar. Her movements will be recorded as she stays around the area to lay more clutches of eggs, and also when she is finished and migrates back to her normal feeding grounds. These data will help us drive targetted conservation action and policy in the Gulf.
