Emira was the last of the turtles we tagged out on Zirqu island, as part of a greater tracking study looking at post-nesting migraitons of hawskbill turtles in the Gulf region. It was a cool and humid night and we had to wait until sunrise the following morning before conditions were right for the glue to set and hold in place the satellite transmitter. She measured in at 67.5 cm and carries two additional flipper tags affixed by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (L0066 EAD and R0065 EAD), which will make identyfying her in the future a lot easier! She is sponsored by Emirates Palace, and her movements around the gulf will help us identify important feeding and migraiton areas for future conservation.
