جزيرة صير بو نعير, الشارقة, الإمارات

Background:
We found Gumasha just about to lay eggs at about 8:45pm on the evening of the 2nd of May, up on beach 11 (on the north shores) of Sir Bu Nair island. She went on to lay 73 eggs and these will contribute to the important number of turtles in the Gulf. Measuring in at 76 cm in curved carapace length, the turtle now also carries a shiny tag (number 1107) so that rangers will recognise her when she returns. We released her the following morning after the glue had dried to hold the satellite transmitter, and she headed right back up north, where she was originally found. With the generous sponsorship of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, this turtle moves around the Gulf, we will be able to monitor her position through the satellite transmissions, and be able to design realistic conservation programmes around her habitat needs.
