Background:
Rimani emerged on a very humid night with no wind, right where our team was tagging another turtle! She started climbing on top of our bags until she found a better place to nest and despite the small disturbance she managed to lay her eggs. She was missing a big piece of her carapace at the back (right side, but long ago healed) but overall seemed healthy, meticulous and very strong...it makes one wonder how she could mate with a part of her back missing? She was tagged by rangers from the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (L0054EAD and R0057EAD) and measured in at 65 cm in curved carapace length. Now with the generous sponsorship from Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, she is another of the turtles which is sending signals to help conservationists and wildlife managers design suitable conservation strategies, as she informs us of her migration routes and feeding grounds.
