Background:
This turtles was tagged by our project partners in Oman representing the Environment Society of Oman and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (Andy Willson, Juma al Humaidi, Ghasi al Farsi and Salim al Saadi). It was a quiet night down at the southeast corner of Masirah island, and no other hawksbills nested anywhere else within 4km all night - but she was surrounded by four olive ridley turtles nesting on the same beach. She was very clean and quietly active in her large loggerhead sized box while the transmitter was being attached, and just as the team started cleaning her, she was greeted by an Olive Ridley hatchling which appeared in the sand next to the box... What a pleasant surprise - a good omen perhaps.
